Abstract
We evaluated the outcome of dismembered pyeloplasty due to ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction based on differentiations between pre-operative findings and post-operative findings in children. Medical records of 72 children (boy:girl=58:14) with a urographically proven, clinically significant, UPJ obstruction, who underwent 72 dismembered pyeloplasties were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were followed up for 47.6¡¾18.3 months. An intravenous pyelography, 99mTc-DTPA and 99mTc-DMSA renal scan were performed for the majority of paients, pre-operatively and 3 months after operation. The major etiology of the patients was periureteral fibrosis (40.3%). In postoperative results, 'Good' result was 46 (63.9%), 'Fair' 16 (22.2%). In the IVP, pre-/postoperative grade of hydronephrosis was no significant differentiation. In ultrasonography, pre-/postoperative grade of hydronephrosis was too. In 99mTc-DMSA renal scan, pre-/postoperative the mean total function was significant differentiation. The success rate of dismembered pyeloplasy was high (86.1%) There was not clear relationship between the success of operation and the parameters. More study is needed with numerous patients and long term follow up.
